Bottle types other than API 38 will have the standard cap color and chloride
levels will be clearly indentified on the packaging.

VK Enterprises stocks a full line of bacteria culture bottles and syringes for anerobic and aerobic testing. All
products are produced as media in 10cc glass sealed vials sold individually or per case of 288. A broad selection of
chloride ranges are also available from 1- 100,000 ppm and each percentage identified by specific cap color.
The majority of lower chloride bottles can be shipped within 1-2 day period from the date of order. Please allow an
additional 2-3 days for higher chloride levels.
Suggestions for Selecting a Media
Extreme differences in dissolved solids (especially chloride ion) between sample and media can give low apparent
bacterial population counts. It is not necessary in most cases to exactly match these levels. Most user obtain very
good results with NaCl levels in API sulfate reducer media of 1%, 3%, 5%, or 10%, for example. Other salt levels are
available.
Please feel free to contact us if you wish our advice on this matter. It is helpful
if you know the chloride range of your sample. Increased chlorides in the formula will reduce the shelf life of
the product.
Most customers looking for sulfate reducing bacteria will use the API formula, but some have found our modified Postgate B to be
more sensitive. Side by side comparison on a test batch may be in order. Waters containing hydrogen sulfide may give false positives in
anaerobic media containing iron as an ingredient. Thioglycollate media may be a
satisfactory solution for this problem.
